Our Society and friends of environmental groups invite our supporters to participate in the forthcoming 1 st July March in order to demonstrate our concern and commitment to the “Protection of the Harbour” and the “Enhancement of the Harbourfront”.
Our slogan will be “Harbour and Harbourfront For the People”.
The recent experience over the Tamar issue demonstrates that the ‘Voice of the People' has not been given due attention. Therefore it is important for supporters of the harbour and the environment to demonstrate our commitment to the harbour, the harbourfront and Hong Kong's environment by taking part in the 1 st July March.
Even before Hong Kong achieves democracy, the people should still have the right to voice their opinions on public matters and the Government should listen to the ‘Voice of the People'.
Furthermore, if Hong Kong is successful in obtaining a democratic government, it will still require the people to be concerned with public affairs, to scrutinize government policies and to voice their opinions. Not to do so will mean giving up our democratic rights and will make democracy useless.
Therefore in supporting this March, we hope to promote public awareness in the need to protect the harbour and the harbourfront and to actively participate in public affairs such that the Government will listen to the ‘Voice of the People'.
